Serco Wildlife Control Officer in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan

15 Wing, headquartered in Moose Jaw, is the centre of RCAF aircrew training and is comprised of 2 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (CFFTS) and 431 Air Demonstration Squadron (CF Snowbirds) both located in Moose Jaw, SK. The Wing is the principal site of the NATO Flying Training in Canada (NFTC). 15 Wing is responsible for three different aircraft platforms that include: CT-156 Harvard II, CT-155 Hawk, CT-114 Tutor, and any visiting aircraft.

You will be part of a team that works closely with the military customer and other Serco teams to deliver quality and efficient Air Traffic Management System maintenance, Aeronautical information services and VFR air traffic services to DND's NFTC program. Serco Canada Inc. is looking for a Wildlife Officer in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. The successful individual will be responsible to oversee and provide safety and hazard assessments regarding management of wildlife for Airfield Operations and workers at 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize various tools and methods to mitigate the risks posed by wildlife hazards at 15 Wing Moose Jaw.

  • Must be proficient in handling Firearms and possess previous work experience in Airfield Operations or remote wilderness setting with wildlife encounters (ie: Hunter, trapper, guide, outfitter, adventure tourism, camp safety officer/first aid attendant, etc.)

  • Learning and developing skills relative to wildlife abatement and dispersal methods, including but not limited to: the discharge of pyrotechnics, ammunition; trapping activities; wildlife release or disposal.

  • Identifying wildlife, collecting data on species, and abatement interventions.

  • Operation of company vehicles and other equipment in safe working order.

  • Completing forms and daily activity reports, on computer and on tablet.

  • May act as Lead when required.

  • Attend courses as required by management.

  • Report all incidents/accidents to the Lead.

  • Operate Airfield communication equipment.

  • Will be required to work off site or in remote areas.

  • Ensure all assigned deliverables and other reports are completed accurately and on time.

  • Visibly demonstrate Serco Values and work practices while completing duties.

  • Responsible for recording time entries and work orders.

  • Other related duties relevant to this position as may be required.

Qualifications

  • Must possess a Firearms Possession and Acquisition certificate (PAL)

  • Completion of a Provincial Hunter (and/or Trapper) Training course and are in possession of a valid small game license.

  • You have a Wildlife Technical Certificate or a degree in biology, environmental studies, or in a subject related to wildlife management.

  • Must be proficient in handling Firearms and possess at least one year of previous wildlife or wilderness work experience in a remote wilderness setting with wildlife encounters (ie: Hunter, trapper, guide, outfitter, adventure tourism, camp safety officer/first.

  • aid attendant, etc.)

  • You have experience in species identification (birds, mammals, amphibians, and reptiles).

  • You have prior hunting and trapping experience.

  • Must be in good physical condition and able to access remote areas while carrying equipment.

  • Must be Standard First Aid trained with CPR Level A and hold a valid certificate.

  • Must be familiar wildlife safety regulations and practices.

  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), as required.

  • Ability to work under physically demanding, often adverse weather conditions.

  • Possession of a SK driver’s license Class 5. (Class 3 is an asset but not required).

  • Possession of or the ability to obtain and maintain a Ramp Defensive Driving Course (DND/RDDC) certification to operate vehicles on the airfield is required.

  • Ability to obtain DND 404 (if required) to operate Government owned vehicles (CFR Plated Equipment).

  • Previous experience operating equipment on an airfield environment would be an asset.

  • Ability to successfully pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screening test.

  • Must successfully complete and pass a Criminal Record Check (CPIC); Fingerprint Criminal Record Check; Reliability clearance.
